The customer reached out to Dayspring Restoration following a main sewer line pipe break in their residential crawlspace. The rupture released raw sewage across the crawlspace dirt floor, creating a severe Category 3 blackwater biohazard with contaminated soil, debris, and elevated indoor airborne particulate risks.
To safely remediate the Category 3 biohazard loss, our technicians donned complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—including Tyvek bio-suits, heavy-duty protective gloves, and respirators. During the initial stabilization phase, our team mapped the loss using DocuSketch and positioned commercial HEPA air scrubbers and an LGR dehumidifier to maintain air circulation, establish negative pressure, and prevent foul odors and contaminants from migrating into the home above. Following the plumber's repair of the broken pipe, our mitigation crew shoveled and excavated the top several inches of contaminated dirt, gravel, and organic debris. Approximately eight heavy-duty containment bags of hazardous material were extracted and hauled away for proper off-site disposal. We then sprayed an EPA-registered Concrobium antimicrobial wash across the exposed earthen foundation and concrete perimeter walls to sanitize the substrate and prevent mold colonization. Once the crawlspace was decontaminated and dried, all drying machines and filtration units were removed, and final clearance documentation was approved by the satisfied homeowner.
