The customer reached out to Dayspring Restoration after a bathtub drain disconnected directly from the trap assembly, resulting in an unsanitary Category 3 wastewater loss. Although only a residual volume of contaminated water was present upon arrival, the blackwater classification coupled with discovered microbial growth on exposed structural framing, bathroom drywall, and adjacent basement bedroom partitions necessitated immediate containment and certified biohazard remediation.
To safely remediate the Category 3 contamination and eliminate secondary microbial hazards, our remediation team isolated each affected zone—including the basement bathroom, living area, and basement bedrooms—using plastic containment chambers paired with industrial air filtration devices (AFDs) operating under continuous negative air pressure. Technicians performed precision demolition to remove contaminated drywall behind the toilet, baseboard-line sheetrock in Basement Bedroom A, and affected wallboards along the shared partition separating Basement Bedroom B and the living room. Following selective material removal, our crew executed comprehensive HEPA vacuuming across all exposed structural lumber, stud cavities, and concrete subfloors to capture airborne spores and fine particulate debris. Exposed studs, top plates, and subfloor surfaces were treated with an EPA-registered antimicrobial disinfectant to neutralize bacteria and inhibit future mold proliferation, leaving the space fully decontaminated and prepped for reconstruction.
