The customer contacted Dayspring Restoration for professional sewage damage cleanup, sanitization, and structural mitigation within their utility room following a Category 3 blackwater intrusion. Raw sewage and biohazard wastewater contaminated the concrete slab floor and personal stored belongings, saturating bottom sill plates and generating hazardous airborne contaminants and persistent sewage odors.
To neutralize biohazard risks and dry the utility room to pre-loss baselines, we carried out a multi-step sewage remediation, decontamination, and structural drying operation. Technicians immediately protected unaffected property areas by setting up containment and floor protection barriers. We evacuated contaminated personal belongings and moisture-affected storage items out to an exterior staging area for inspection and salvage evaluation. Our team completed controlled drywall flood-cuts around the room perimeter to expose hidden wall cavities and wet framing. We performed detailed deep-surface scrubbing, water extraction, and applied a broad-spectrum EPA-registered antimicrobial wash across the entire concrete slab and exposed wall framing to eradicate pathogens and neutralize strong sewage odors. We positioned four low-profile air movers, one LGR commercial dehumidifier, and an air filtration device (AFD) to establish rapid evaporation and clean indoor air. During the follow-up inspection, wood sill plates were tested with a hammer probe to verify they met industry dry standards for pressure-treated wood. With the structure certified dry, all equipment was decommissioned and removed while leaving surface protection intact per customer preference, followed by issuing official completion documentation to the designated conservator.
