A Category 3, Class 3 water loss occurred in the basement due to a toilet drain backup in the bathroom, causing significant contamination and water damage to structural materials and finishes throughout the basement.
The restoration team performed emergency water extraction, installed drying equipment including two dehumidifiers and an air scrubber, and treated affected concrete with a bio-wash. Contaminated and water-damaged materials, including wood and particle board paneling, were removed from the den, second bedroom, and laundry room. Partial demolition was carried out in the bathroom, with remaining sections requiring plumber and electrician access. Elevated moisture readings were documented on exposed wood sill plates, and ongoing monitoring of affected areas was conducted. One truckload of demolition debris was removed. Asbestos sampling was recommended for basement vinyl tile, black mastic, and drywall due to the potential presence of hazardous materials before further work.
