The customer contacted us after a stressful sewage backup completely inundated her basement, affecting a laundry room, a bedroom, and the main living area leading to the stairs. The blackwater backup compromised structural walls and numerous personal belongings (contents). Given the highly dangerous pathogens present in Category 3 blackwater, the customer needed immediate biohazard mitigation to stabilise the indoor air quality, guide her on specialised content restoration (such as coordinating with a national laundry vendor to salvage sentimental clothing), and execute a controlled demolition plan.
Our multi-tech emergency crew (Cypress, Kenz, and the lead team) executed a strict biohazard extraction and containment strategy- Environment Stabilisation & Content Assessment: Stabilised the high-humidity, contaminated basement atmosphere to halt microbial reproduction, while cataloguing and setting aside salvageable fabrics for specialised cleaning. Controlled Demolition (Flood Cuts): Carefully removed contaminated drywall in the laundry room and stripped back the lower sections of wood panelling and compromised backing insulation in the bedroom to expose the structural framing. Rigorous Biowashing: Performed an intensive, deep-cleansing biowash across the entire basement floor plan—meticulously treating the slab surface from the laundry room, through the bedroom, and entirely across the main common areas fronting the stairs. Pathogen Neutralisation: Applied commercial-grade sanitisers to eliminate harmful bacteria and organic bio-pollutants from the remaining structural timber framing and concrete floor.
